DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
I'm a film director who has worked in the industry for 12 years, and an immigrant living in the U.S. for 19 years. I came here when I was a kid for a better life of opportunity and safety. In 2021, I met my now wife. In 2022, we decided to build a life together. I was in the U.S., and she was abroad. That same year, a conflict broke out in her country. Her safety became our primary concern, and I was terrified something could happen to her any day. We feared that the borders would close and we'd never see each other again. In a week, she left everything behind and moved to a country she'd never been to.
2 years ago she was finally able to come to the US. Even though this was the best moment of my life to finally be reunited, the country I've been calling home for the past 19 years began to feel very different. The safety I felt when I first came here began to dissolve. And when I thought about where I'd go, I realized that I didn't even know, because instability like this seems to be happening everywhere. This film comes from that lived reality: the fear of losing everything overnight, and the impossible question of where to go when nowhere feels safe.
